Diana Ross triumphs at Vienna Jazz Festival with AKG

AKG C 5900M with TM 40 transmitter module meets the highest aesthetic and audio requirements

Diana Ross, a living legend of soul and pop music, continues touring with exceptional verve and great success. In early July 2005, Ms. Ross gave another triumphant concert in front of a capacity audience at the Vienna State Opera, the splendid venue of the annual Vienna Jazz Festival.

Being very particular about her equipment, Diana Ross has always insisted on using a microphone that would capture every detail and nuance of inflection of her voice with the greatest possible accuracy and that fits her aesthetic concept as well. In the past, AKG Acoustics made custom versions of various microphones to Ms Ross' specifications, including a white version of the AKG top-of-the-line D 330 BT for her unforgettable New York Central Park Concert in 1983.

Well-known sound designer Lars Brogaard is famous for finding the best microphone for every voice. He chose an AKG Emotion/TriPower C 5900M for Diana Ross who was extremely satisfied with the exceptional sound of this microphone but said she would rather have a thinner wireless version than the HT 4000/C 5900 combination.

The obvious solution was to use a C 5900M with a TM 40 UHF transmitter module. This clever miniature transmitter is inserted into the shaft of the microphone body and can be easily switched with an XLR module for connecting a cable. The shape of the microphone body remains unchanged either wired or wireless. The microphone is light and slender to hold.

Says Lars Brogaard, "it was absolutely perfect for the incomparable Diana in terms of both aesthetics and sound. She was very happy with this solution and will use it on her next tours as well."

Helpful Hints

Single coil Pick-Up
Single coil pick-ups consist of six magnets (one under each string) which are surrounded by one continuous coil of wire. Single coils are excellent for thinner more percussive styles of playing. Single coils are also susceptible to 50-60 cycle hum which can be a problem if using a high gain setting on an amplifier.

Sound Reinforcement
Traditionally this term was used for exactly what it states, i.e. the amplification of audio signals in a "live" situation, be that a sound system for a live concert or a theatre of any sort, or a Public Announcement type system etc. In the last few decades the usage of the term has expanded to include most sound installations both permanent and portable, and in practice covers almost any type of sound system installation except those used in homes and recording studios.
