Audio Products Group at SMPTE and AMAC 2005

Over the past few months, APG was proud to be represented at two key industry events, SPMTE in Sydney in July and AMAC on the Gold Coast in September.

The Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers – Conference (SMPTE)

SMPTE happens only once every two years and provides us with an opportunity to present our excellent range of products to the market. On display this year were AKG microphones and headphones as well as Denon & Marantz Pro products.

Our range of Marantz Pro Digital “compact flash” field recorders were a big hit with the broadcasters, particularly the PMD660 & PMD671. The new DNV755 hard disc audio video network adaptor from Denon Pro also created a lot of interest.

The new award-winning AKG C414BXLII microphone received a lot of attention from studio engineers. It is a classic microphone with a distinctive timbre especially designed for the recording of solo vocals and solo instruments.

The Australian Music Association Convention (AMAC)

The Australian Music Association Convention was once again well attended by music retailers and wholesalers.

APG was pleased to showcase our leading MI brands and products, including Peavey guitars, guitar-, bass - and keyboard amplifiers, mixers and P.A. systems, AKG Studio, Wireless & Live sound microphones & headphones, & Denon DJ products.

New from Peavey
On show was the new Valve King, a valve 50 watt combo guitar amplifier. Visitors to our stand were blown away by the sweet tones but also the hot retail price of $995.

New from AKG
Our new CCS range of MI mics was on display. This excellent line-up is designed to take the competition head on! Extremely good value for the money, the CCS range comes complete with a hard carry case and high quality cable.

New from Denon DJ
The Denon DNS3500 took pride of place on our DJ booth. Officially launched at AMAC 2005, the DNS3500 tabletop CD/MP3 player boasts a powerful direct drive motor. The DNS3500 will completely reinvent the market for all vinyl and digital DJs alike.

Helpful Hints

Why are there so many different microphones?
Different microphones are designed for different jobs. In addition to this there may be different microphones for the same job. Microphones come in many variations, different Polar Patterns, different Sensitivity, different Frequency Response and differing Proximity Effects.

What are “polar patterns”?
The "polar pattern" of a microphone indicates its sensitivity to sounds arriving from different directions. Omnidirectional microphones "hear" equally well in all directions while all others prefer sound from one (unidirectional) or two (bidirectional) directions.
