AKG or I’m leaving – Performance Catastrophe International artist Joao Gilberto threatened to leave the stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles at a sell-out show where fans had paid US$75 a ticket to see him perform.
The
renowned jazz singer and composer was distraught to find that the AKG
microphone he had specifically requested had not been provided by the
sound technicians. Gilberto started complaining about his microphone to
a packed audience. “Where is the AKG 414?” He asked the terrified sound
technician after he had performed his first song.
He was then provided with an AKG microphone, but this wasn’t the one he had asked for. “Look, I am going back to Brasil. I am leaving…”. He didn’t leave, but he did continue to complain throughout the performance. The crowd reacted with good humour, applauding the tormented stage technician who was desperately trying to appease the star. The AKG C414 is one of the most used condenser microphones in the world for use in studios or live/ tour sound applications.
